Tom Wesselmann born February 23rd 1931 in Cincinnati Ohio
Tom first began an education at Hiram College in 1945
Before finishing his degree he was drafted to the US Army
He served stateside during the Korean War
With his return home he decided to finish out a bachelors in psychology
He transferred to the University of Ohio to do so
While he was passionate about psychology, he wanted to pursue art
Moving to New York, he attended Cooper Union Academy of Arts and Architecture in 1956
He began with cartoon strips in which would bring small fortunes
This served as Wesselmann's main income along with teaching
He had a passion for the new movement of Pop Art and had little interest in the current trend of Abstract Expressionism
He began many series in which included "Great American Nudes" and "Still Life"
He had his first exhibition at the Tanager Gallery in New York in 1961
In 1963 he married his long life best friend, Claire Selley
Wesselmann had 2 daughters, Jenny and Kate, and 1 son named Lane
Wesselman Died on December 17th 2004 due to heart failure
