“Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
-To Kill a Mockingbird
This passage stands out to me because I believe this book was creative in creating a bold analogy. The mockingbird represents innocents. To kill a mockingbird would be to kill innocents. I think there are two ways this could be interpreted. I believe the little girl loses her innocents when she becomes educated upon the ugly truths of the discrimination of her town. I also believe this represents to false accusation upon the innocent black man. This book was such a beautiful novel to me in the way in which it told a sad yet realistic story of discrimination and racism.
